Every Halibut Counts at bycatch symposium

may-wakefieldOn Thursday, May 15th Terry Johnson of Alaska Sea Grant/University of Alaska Fairbanks presented at the 29th Lowell Wakefield Fisheries Symposium which focused on Fisheries Bycatch: Global Issues and Creative Solutions. His PowerPoint on the project can be viewed here.

More charter boats, less halibut

This story from the Seward City News discusses the charter boat fleet in Alaska and efforts on the part of some captains to conserve halibut populations. Every Halibut Counts steering committee member, Andy Mezirow, is quoted in the article saying “This is our attempt to figure out a happy ending for charter boats… We want to make sure there’s something to come to Seward to fish for.”
